I chose to enter this program because I intend to become a Special Education teacher. My brother, Jacob, is autistic, and while growing up, I accrued some experience supervising and caring for him. I even had some time as a teacher's assistant in his classroom. https://www.si.edu/sidedoor
My chosen podcast is Sidedoor, a podcast produced by the Smithsonian with the goal of diving deep into various topics. Two episodes that caught my eye were "Get Off My Lawn", which is about the perfect uniform lawn that's so ubiquitous in American culture, and "Who Built The White House", which is about the enslaved people who built the famous building. I think these topics serve the goal of culturally relevant teaching, because they both interrogate the dominant culture in which we live.Final ReflectionI have tried so many new things while taking this course. I've use QR codes, put together a storybook, recorded a podcast, and even edited a video. While it was challenging, and I'm still no tech expert by any means, I'm very proud of what I've accomplished. I'll look back on this ePortfolio as a reminder of the challenges I can overcome.
I hope to get more opportunities to hone these skills in the future, especially video editing. However, the experience I think I'm most likely to take into my classroom is the Hour of Code. Coding is a important skill in many careers, and HoC provides many ways of activating children's prior experience with computer games to engage them. Even I found myself charmed by Minecraft: Hero's Journey, and I'm an adult! ArchivesNo Archives Categories |
